She’s been teasing all week, and it’s finally here. London-based singer Baby Queen keeps the pop excellence coming, this time with a spunky pop-rock anthem titled ‘American Dream’. Joining her on the track is Australian singer MAY-A, whom we recently featured on our LGBTQIA+ artists list.

‘American Dream’ follows April’s ‘Dover Beach’, which will both feature on Baby Queen’s ‘The Yearbook’ mixtape due September 3rd.

With lyrics like “My wildest dreams always come true / So I’m dreaming wildly about you / And I’m nothing if not persistent / So I’ll think us into existence,” Baby Queen keeps up her brand of “anti-pop” candour, as MAY-A and her take turns dreaming up scenarios with their love interests. Using the ‘American Dream’ as a metaphor for a faraway fantasy, the song isn’t afraid to get dirty, too, as the pair sings about doing things “That you won’t have to hide / In a dirty dream on a lonely night”.

And the music video, set in a 60s themed American diner, sees Baby Queen fawning over a female love interest as she admires her from afar while MAY-A rocks it out on a vintage TV set. Switching between her punk girl character and her diner waitress role, the video ends with Baby Queen laughing with her love interest over milkshakes only to realise it was all a dream.

Speaking about the track, Baby Queen (born Bella Latham) revealed, “This song compares a childlike infatuation with the idea of the American dream, which in hindsight is a bit of a fallacy, but there were people that did get to experience it and reach the prosperity they’d heard about.”

“I’m really into manifestation – not in a spiritual way, just in a very practical sense. I think if you put all your energy into something by talking about it all the time or thinking about it, the course of your life will naturally bend towards that thing.”

Notably, ‘American Dream’ is Baby Queen’s first track to feature another artist since her debut just one year ago, as she celebrated her first anniversary of being Baby Queen with a tattoo of ‘Baby Kingdom’—the name of her fanbase. Earlier this year, ‘Drivers License’ singer Olivia Rodrigo also gushed about Baby Queen, calling her “badass” and saying that she “can’t wait to see what else she does in her career”. Baby Queen is all grown up and going places.
